Procedure & schedule
The start of the Gornergrat Zermatt Marathon takes place in several waves and starting blocks. The division is based on the disciplines (marathon, ultra, half marathon, TOP20RUN), the respective starting locations of St. Niklaus and Zermatt, as well as the expected running time.
This start system ensures an orderly process, avoids crowds and enables all participants to start their race smoothly. Thanks to the staggered starts, there is enough space on the route to enjoy the experience in a relaxed manner against the unique mountain backdrop. At the same time, the numerous spectators along the route contribute to a motivating and rousing atmosphere - from the villages in the valley to the finish line on the Riffelberg or Gornergrat.
