The Gornergrat Zermatt Marathon is actively committed to ecological, economic and social sustainability.
Our goals:

The Gornergrat Zermatt Marathon Association is committed to a sustainable event in accordance with "clean event - Swiss Olympic".

The sustainability concept lays down the foundations for the planning, implementation and review of measures.

Targeted measures are taken to reduce the impact on the environment in the long term.

Participants, spectators, helpers, sponsors and other bodies are involved.

The implementation of sustainability measures is measured, evaluated and assessed with annual checks.

Ecological sustainability
Main objective: Caring for the environment - ecologically responsible!

Our measures:
- Waste separation at all catering and event locations
- Drinks with CHF 2 deposit in the Zermatt pasta tent
- "Moving grandstand" to reduce individual traffic
- Luggage transport for runners to avoid unnecessary journeys
- Noise protection: marquee celebrations until 11 p.m., no set-up and dismantling work between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m.
Economic sustainability
Main objective: Boosting the economy - economically productive!
- Increase regional added value
- Promotion of positive location marketing
- Long-term realization of the Gornergrat Zermatt Marathon
Our measures:
- The Swiss-Runners Ticket
- Cooperation with regional providers (transportation, food)
- Discounted accommodation for runners: Hotels in Zermatt and Täsch, package deals in Grächen, runners' hotels and apartments
- Cooperation with SBB, PostBus, mountain railroads, local restaurants, stores, etc.
- International event: participants from more than 25 different nations
Social sustainability
Main objective: Promote social aspects - in a socially responsible way!
- Promoting acceptance and tolerance
- Setting positive impulses
- Promotion of popular sport
Our measures:
- Great importance is attached to safety (safety officer, safety concept, race management, cooperation with the fire department and cantonal police, paramedics)
- Anti-doping
- Smoke-free areas
- Support from local and regional partners
- Over 900 volunteers
